Integrated Development Environment
An IDE is a tool that helps you write programs and build them. Visual Studio is an IDE provided by Microsoft for the development on C#, F#, Visual Basic and many other programming languages. Visual Studio is a commercial product by Microsoft, So you have to purchase a license to use Microsoft Visual Studio. However, there is a free version of Microsoft Visual Studio known as Microsoft Visual Studio Express for educational purpose. Download and Install Express from www.visualstudio.com . I will be using Microsoft Visual Studio Ultimate 2012 for all the C# Tutorials.
C# can be used for web based, windows based or console based application development. To start with, we will create a console application of C#.
Create a C# Project by click on File->New Project on the top left side of the menu.
A “New Project” window will be shown on your screen, Select Visual C# from templates (right column) and select console application from middle column
In the name, give any appropriate name to your project, location where you want to store all the project files and solution name.
Click OK to create the console project. Program.cs will be created as default, In this file you can write your C# code in program class as shown below.
In such way you can create a console application using Visual Studio.
