Javascript Plugins To Extract Colors From Images

While working on one of my new project where I have to extract prominent colors from an image and make it a background for a specific area of that page. I was searching plugins for this task and i have compiled a list of Javascript Plugins to extract colors from images. Extracting colors from an image is not an everyday task (usually). But some developers wrote the useful plugins to extract colors from images.

Here is my short compiled list of javascript plugins to extract colors from image.

1. Vibrant.js

Vibrant is one of my favorite plugin that extracts prominent colors from an image. Vibrant.js is a javascript port of the awesome Palette class in the Android support library.

2. Color Thief

A script for grabbing the color palette from an image. Uses Javascript and the canvas tag to make it happen. If you use an image that is already loaded on DOM, you can retrieve synchronously the 8 palette of colors.

Colorify is a tiny, customizable, tiny color extraction javascript plugin.

  • Extract the dominant color from an image
  • Generate gradients based on the images colors
  • Isolate colors and manipulates them everywhere in the page
  • Create a Lazy-revealer system for your images
  • Load image dynamically
  • Create any colorify({}); instances you want
